Buy Unlocked Sony Xperia Play for $749

Sony Ericsson's new mobile gaming handset, the Xperia Play, has already launched in the UK and will launch in North America and the rest of the world later this year. But wherever you live in the world, you can already buy an unlocked Xperia Play that will function on your local network. In the USA, the Xperia Play is exclusive to Verizon, so this is also an opportunity to get the gaming phone on a different carrier. Of course it won't come cheap. Right now, you can purchase the unlocked Xperia Play from Amazon for $749 USD. That's roughly what you would pay for the phone if you didn't enter into a contract with Verizon in the united States or O2 in the UK. This unlocked phone also comes with an international warranty.

Sony's Xperia Play is a very competent smartphone/gaming hybrid. It runs the latest version of Android (Gingerbread) and uses the Snapdragon graphics processor to handle impressive 3D graphics. It currently sports an impressive launch lineup of 60 games, many of which are PSOne era classics. There will also be some PSP conversions and even some platform exclusive games that you won't find anywhere else. It's somewhere between an iPhone and a PSP in terms of its game selection -- these titles are meant to be enjoyed on the go, but they definitely don't skimp in terms of graphics and features. The Xperia Play's controls are what make the phone special: you've got full PlayStation style controls including analog touch pads and shoulder buttons.

Smartphone functionality is also excellent. Owners have access to the complete Android App catalog, Google maps, Voice control, 3D maps, camera upload features, multitouch screen and bluetooth. There's even a front-facing camera for video chat functionality.

In summary, the Xperia Play is a very competent smartphone with the extra bonus of great gaming controls. It will definitely appeal to people who want a bit more quality from their mobile gaming experience, but want to keep the convenience of a compact smartphone.
