LG Adds Cinema 3D Tech To D41P And D42P Monitors

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

I knew LG made televisions, so it really wasn’t much of a surprise to see them venturing into computer monitors as well. And it’s even less of a surprise to see them bring out their Film Patterned Retarder technology to their newest line of 3D capable monitors, the LG D41P and the LG D42P.

The LG D41P and LG D42P both pack in a 1920 x 1080 resolution, as well as LG’s Film Patterned Retarder technology that lets users use passive 3D glasses as opposed to much heavier active shutter glasses. They’ll also both pack a 5 ms response time, HDMI port, and will even allow you to convert 2D to 3D, for those times when you really want your pie charts to go flying at some people. They’re even said to be largely without flicker, which is a pretty big deal as far as computer monitors go.

About the only difference I could spot between the two monitors is that one is slightly larger–the sizes on these range from 21.5 to 25 inches– though there likely will be a price difference. Sadly, we don’t know just what that price is, as no one’s yet announced what the prices will be when they get out of South Korea, where they’re currently on sale.

However, we’ll likely hear about this soon, as LG’s set to put these out on a much wider release schedule starting this June-and it will be a worldwide release schedule, at last report. And they also look pretty nice, too, based on what images I’ve seen of them so far, so they might just do all right gracing your computer desk, especially if you watch a lot of movies on your computer. These might even work for gaming, actually.

But considering that their intended launch date is a little over a month away, we’re going to have to start hearing more about this in rapid fashion.
