Colorado couldn’t build on an early 2-0 lead during a 5-4 loss in Anaheim on Monday but wasn’t competitive until late during a 3-2 defeat to visiting Nashville on Thursday. Paul Stastny and David Jones scored in the final 6:25 to make it competitive at the end.
“We’ve lost two in a row by one goal,” center Matt Duchene said. “We’re just making mistakes at the wrong time right now and it’s eating us alive.”
The Coyotes got left winger Vernon Fiddler back from an upper-body injury in their most recent game, and defenseman Ed Jovanovski could return soon from orbital bone surgery. Martin Hanzal and Lauri Korpikoski might not be in the lineup until the final week of the regular season.
Phoenix could use two points as it has just four games remaining in the regular season. The Coyotes, though, get a four-day break before traveling to fellow playoff contender Los Angeles and wraps up with a home-and-home series against Pacific Division leader San Jose.

The play of goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov is one reason why the Phoenix Coyotes are closing in on consecutive playoff berths for the first time since the turn of the millennium.
Bryzgalov is expected to get his first attempt to make franchise history by delivering another win Friday night against the visiting Colorado Avalanche.
After giving up four goals in consecutive starts early last month, Bryzgalov has a 1.54 goals-against average in winning seven of his last nine.
