Did Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando Take an Epic Road Trip Together?

Thursday, May 5, 2011

Elizabeth Taylor is profiled in the June 2011 issue of Vanity Fair, with close friends and assistants sharing their insights and memories of the actress' final years. Among the recollections is a bizarre story about the events of September 11, 2001, when she, Michael Jackson and Marlon Brando found themselves trapped in New York City.

Apparently Jackson performed at Madison Square Garden the previous evening, with good friends Taylor and Brando in the audience. The following morning, Michael received a call from friends in Saudi Arabia, who warned him to leave the city. A former employee of Jackson's says that, unable to secure a private plane, the three stars decided to head West in a rental car: "They actually got as far as Ohio—all three of them, in a car they drove themselves!"

The most endearing (and believable) part of this story is definitely the rumor that Brando annoyed his travel buddies by insisting on stopping for KFC and Burger King at every turn.

A friend of Taylor's insists that the late actress took no part in this road trip, instead choosing to remain in New York City at the St. Regis Hotel. But this is one legend we'd prefer to believe is true.
