The Senators sent Elliott to Colorado on Friday for Anderson, 13-15-3 with a 3.28 goals-against average one season after posting a career-high 36 wins to help lead the Avalanche to the playoffs.
“For whatever reasons, things weren’t working out quite the same this year,” Colorado coach Joe Sacco said. “Craig gets a fresh start there.”
An unrestricted free agent after this season, Anderson can use the stretch run as an audition for a possible future with the Senators.
“The good thing about this is that we get a chance, for (24) games, to look at and watch (Anderson),” Ottawa general manager Bryan Murray said. “During that time period, I would think that we’ll have discussions and we’ll see where we want to be and he wants to be.”
